AI analysis

AI analysis

Have an AI model discuss trades and ETFs, with your own API key or in the browser, and know exactly which data goes out.

At a glance

  • AI analysis only runs when you start it yourself.
  • With your own API key (OpenAI, Google Gemini or Anthropic) the answer appears right in Foliograph.
  • Without a key Foliograph opens the prompt in your browser at ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity or Grok, or you copy it.
  • You can adapt the prompts yourself.

Where to find it

  • Trade page: the AI Analysis section has buttons for Run via API, the browser variants and Copy prompt.

  • Journal: the AI icon in a row opens the same menu for that trade. Trade page: AI Analysis section

  • ETF heatmap and World Map: the AI icon next to an ETF opens a menu with Analyze via API, the browser variants and Copy prompt.

Setting up your own API key

  1. Create an API key with the provider of your choice (OpenAI, Google AI Studio or Anthropic Console). The provider bills the usage to you directly.
  2. Open Settings > AI and click + Add new AI connection.
  3. Enter a name, pick the provider, paste the key and optionally pick a model. Without one Foliograph uses a default model of the provider.
  4. Default sets which connection the buttons use when you have several. Active switches a connection off without deleting it.

The key is stored encrypted and is not part of backups.

Which data goes out

What is sent is exactly the prompt you can see with Copy prompt. It contains:

Analysis Data in the prompt
Trade Symbol, type, side, quantity, entry and exit price, P&L, commission, status, currency, strategy, option strategy, stop, take-profit, open and close date and your notes on the trade
ETF Symbol and name of the ETF

Account numbers, account balance, other trades and your credentials are not sent. Check what the notes of a trade say before you have it analyzed.

With an API key the prompt goes directly from Foliograph to the provider. Without a key it is part of the address your browser opens and the service in the browser receives it. Either way the privacy terms of that provider apply.

Adapting the prompts

Under Settings > AI > AI Prompts there are three templates: Option trades, Stock & futures trades and ETF analysis. Placeholders in curly braces are replaced when the prompt runs:

Placeholder Replaced with
{symbol} Symbol
{asset_type} Type of trade (for example stock option)
{trade_data} The data from the table above. Without the placeholder Foliograph appends the data at the end.
{name} Name of the ETF (ETF template only)

Revert to default restores the built-in template.

What the answer is

The answer comes from the provider's AI model, not from Foliograph. It can contain mistakes and is not investment advice. Check statements about prices, figures and fundamentals yourself.
